COPD and Salt Therapy

COPD and Salt Therapy

What is COPD? Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD for short, is the name for a group of diseases that restrict air flow and cause breathing difficulties.  This includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Here are some sobering statistics:

In 2014, the CDC reported the annual financial cost of COPD to be $36 billion in the United States.  That number is expected to increase to $49 Billion by 2020.  An estimated 16.4 million days of work were lost due to COPD each year.  Of the medical cost, 18% was paid by private insurance, 51% by Medicare, and 25% by Medicaid.

Chronic lower respiratory diseases, including COPD, are the 3rd leading cause of death in the US.  Approximately 80% of COPD deaths can be attributed to smoking.   In North Carolina, 68.2% of COPD patients reported that shortness of breath affected their quality of life.

So what are your non pharmacologic treatment options?

The most common non pharmacologic treatments are pulmonary rehabilitation, physical activity training, and oxygen treatment.

What is Salt Therapy and how can it help me?

While the treatments listed above are helpful, we offer an all-natural therapy that can reduce your symptoms and help you live a better quality of life.  That therapy is called Halotherapy.   Halo is the Greek word for Salt.  Salt is naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory.  In the past 150 years, salt therapy has become increasingly popular, and for good reason. In 1843, a Polish physician, Dr Feliks Boczkowski, noticed that workers at the Wieliczka salt mine did not suffer from lung disorders. During the ensuing years, Dr Boczkowsk developed a therapy based on his theory that spending time in salt mines by breathing in the dry salt aerosol could cure ill health. In fact, most had long lasting effects due to their improved immune system function.
