Airborne Allergies and Salt Therapy-Breathe The Difference!

Airborne Allergies and Salt Therapy

What is an allergy?   An allergy is when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance, called an allergen.  It can be something you inhale, inject into your body or touch.  This reaction could cause coughing, sneezing, itchy eyes, a runny nose and a scratchy throat.  In severe cases, it can cause rashes, hives, low blood pressure, asthma attacks and even death.

In 2012, 11.1 million people were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. In 2010, Americans with nasal swelling spent about $17.5 billion on health costs.  They have also lost more than 6 million work and school days and made 16 million visits to their doctor.

The American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology estimates that as many as 30 percent of adults suffer from nasal allergies, and Charlotte consistently ranks in the top 50 cities nationally for worst allergies reported, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.

What can you do?

Don’t run in the morning when pollen counts are highest, keep your car windows closed while driving in the spring and summer, use HEPA air filters in the home, vacuum often and keep pet dander to a minimum, take prescribed medicine or allergy shots.

What if you’ve done the above and are still suffering?

At The Salt Pad we offer an all-natural treatment called Halotherapy.   Halo is the Greek word for Salt.  Salt therapy has been around for thousands of years.  Salt is naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory.  In the past 150 years, salt therapy has become increasingly popular, and for good reason.  In 1843, a Polish physician, Dr Feliks Boczkowski, noticed that workers at the Wieliczka salt mine did not suffer from lung disorders that were common at that time. During the ensuing years, Dr Boczkowsk developed a therapy based on his theory that spending time in salt mines by breathing in the dry salt aerosol could cure ill health. In fact, most had long lasting effects due to their improved immune system function.

The Salt Pad isn’t a salt mine, so how does it work?

Good question! By utilizing a special machine, called a Halogenerator, The Salt Pad is able to recreate the same conditions as a natural salt cave!  Our Halogenerator crushes up pure pharmaceutical grade salt into a micro particle sized mist, that is highly concentrated, and blown into the treatment room.  We offer a relaxing treatment room for adults, filled with a Himalayan sea salt floor, soft music, and comfy leather recliner chairs. Our children’s room has a Himalayan sea salt floor, toys, and books-it’s like playing on a sandy beach!  A session lasts approximately 45 minutes.   Consistent treatment (as in just about any natural approach) is the key to receiving maximum and longer lasting relief.  We offer affordable pricing.  Call us at 980.498.2895.
